Zoe Meme #112: PURPOSE

This cat, I tell ya, she is just something else. I kick my house shoes off and next thing I know, she is making sure antigravity doesn’t take off with the one shoe. Her response time to finding my shoes is about as good as zip zip Zoe when she hears the cheese bag open in the human’s magical kitchen.

Know what else will make this fat lazy rotten cat move quickly? Tuna!! <- click on that link to see this fat cat loving on her tuna.

Callie boo Cuddles de Cinco has truly found her purpose in life: stinky shoes. She simply MUST find every pair of shoes and claim them as her own. She is so rotten!

How to Light Up a Room

Monday September 16th of 2014, I was sitting on the couch and my mom was sitting to my left. This is one of those “I’ll never forget the moment” events in my life. I got a message from my sister asking if I had heard about what happened to our cousin Andrew. With a deeply sad heart, I discovered he had passed away a few hours earlier.

My mom and I sat there and wept. To know this family is to know good people. Andrew was 21 years old and the picture of health. No reason was initially given for his death.

I attended the funeral with my younger daughter. I had nearly completed my chemotherapy in my battle against Burkitt’s Lymphoma. I was swollen from steroids and had little stamina. Thanks to my daughter driving me six hours down and back, I had the privilege of attending.

His death was a mystery for a short while. After the autopsy was completed, I learned he died from a grand mal seizure. He had no history of seizures and was a healthy young man. The general assumption is that he was entering into a phase of adult seizure activity.

I had learned just 4 years prior to this event that adult onset seizure activity is a very real thing.  A grown adult in her young 20’s manifested a seizure during a lecture I was giving during one of my classes as a dialysis educator. If I had not witnessed that personally, I might have thought the idea of seizures beginning in adulthood a hard to believe concept. You can bet I’m a believer after witnessing one right in front of my eyes with a young woman who had no history of prior seizure activity.

I tell you what, when a bucket full of liquid gets kicked hard, the contents will splash over the side. Andrew’s family was given the ultimate gut kick and what has splashed out is absolutely nothing short of phenomenal. It exemplifies why I say they are such amazing people.

I am tempted to give an over view of the video and explain what happened, but that is the reason this video exists. It explains in a personal manner the life of Andrew, what happened with his passing, and the response since his death.

When I set out to make this video, I had this notion I’d throw together something simple, amateur, and cheesy. I am sufficient with making cheesy amateur videos. All you have to do is go to my youtube channel and you will see why I say that.

I went down to Charles and Nancy’s house this year and interviewed them for this video. When I began to stitch it all together, the result was stunning. It went far beyond anything I could have imagined or hoped for. I knew I was onto something super special. I wept multiple times during the making of this video. It may be amateur in nature, but the cheese factor is rather minimal. My cousins have a special ability to convey such warmth and personality and it was clearly captured in this video.

The title stumped me. I actually struggled a lot with what I was going to call it. The video was so personal to me and so beyond what I thought I could ever create, I didn’t want to settle for an average title. I went between such ideas as “A Love Story,” or “Andrew’s Story,” or more personal names like “Muddy Mudskipper” or “Smiley.” No name seemed to have that particular something I was looking for.

As I examined the Facebook posts of Andrew’s friends, one line stood out to me. A comment a friend of Andrew’s made about him, was the exact observation his mother shares in this video. They both shared how he had the ability to just “light up a room” when he entered.

I am pleased to release to you all a very personal work that turned out so much better than I could have possibly imagined, titled:

“How to Light Up a Room.”

Zoe Meme #111: SERENE

I’m publishing this a couple of days early instead of on Monday, as is my custom.

In light of this being an “Easter” Zoe Meme of sorts, I find it ironic this happens to be the one hundred and eleventh Zoe meme. Three ones. A trinity of ones. God is One. Totally a coincidence of timing.

I have hope in a life after death because of the resurrection of The Christ. I picture heaven as a beautiful and serene place. Although serenity on this side of eternity is merely a weak glimpse into what might be to come, I’ll even take the tiniest of glimpses.

Happy Easter everyone. He is risen!

Zoe Meme #111: CRAVE

This is what I saw as I was sitting on the couch. Yes, a less than 5 lb furry critter staring down her grammy, as if it would wear her down.

And it did! She got a nibble of amazing human food, the sole reason she lives (next to be a love puppy).

Notice the perfect posture? Straight back? I mean, this hound dog is something else. She is literally frozen in place in an intense stare down with her grammy.

And the four point something pound poodle won.

Zoe Meme #110: Abandon

Zoe Memes began as a simple funny gesture from me to my youngest daughter about her rotten poodle, Zoe. I was struck with the confident composure of this tiny critter sitting on my couch. Then I picked up momentum realizing how much fun memes can be, so I started cranking them out.

I did 100 Zoe Memes in 100 days summer of 2016.

During that time, I came to the realization that the word Zoe means “life” in Greek. I know little zip zip Zoe poodle dog won’t be around forever, but joy in the human heart will. I began to ask myself, what all could bring joy, bring life to the human heart?

I am going to begin branching out with Zoe Meme’s to include differing aspects of life that bring joy. I will no longer limit it to the human’s pets, although they will still take a prominent place in Zoe Memes.

Meet Charleigh Mae, my great niece. Isn’t she a cutie-pie? She has the most amazing family. Her mom sends pictures of this busy girl to family and posts things on the face-place social media regularly. It is easy to see why. We could nearly make a series on the adventures of Charleigh Mae.

Valentines of 2017, Charleigh Mae’s mom asked her what she wanted to create for Valentines day. She said, a monster bag!

A monster bag.

For Valentines day.

Right!

And that is exactly what led to this picture. CM was giving a huge RAR! for this picture moment.

Can you say RARRRR?

I wish we could all have such abandonment with joy to such simple things of life. Maybe we just did with this Zoe Meme!

Zoe Meme #109: Realization

Look at those eyes, just look at those big expressive Milly eyeballs!  Once the intense cheesy flavor exploded upon her powerful tiny taste buds, her eyes opened wide and her tongue got busy searching for more.

She came to the realization that her grampy was not trying to trick her. She realized this is a true treat. She became more fully aware of why little zip zip Zoe scurries into the human’s magical kitchen every chance she can.

I could have titled this one “epiphany.” Check out the definition of epiphany as per the Merriam-Webster dictionary:

a (1) :  a usually sudden manifestation or perception of the essential nature or meaning of something (2) :  an intuitive grasp of reality through something (as an event) usually simple and striking (3) :  an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosureb :  a revealing scene or moment

Look at those eyes, I mean study those expressive eyes! She indeed had a sudden manifestation of the meaning of something. She can now intuitively grasp the reality of doggie treats. She indeed has had an illuminating discovery of something simple and striking.

Mrs Milly has come to the realization her grampy loves to give good cheesy treats to deserving grandpups!

Zoe Meme #108: Commit

Do not laugh at others who have trouble committing to a course of action. Obligations in life should be taken with great consideration and respect. Counting the cost before committing is a choice we should all exercise daily.

My oldest graddogter, Mrs Milly, certainly counted the cost with her circumspect approach before she demonstrated courage in committing to tasting human food. Her ability to commit, to finally move her nose close enough to the cheese and to open her mouth and actually taste the cheese, was sincerely touching.

I’m not being goofy in saying that. Silly, yes, but the truth is, by the time Milly committed to the actual action of tasting her cheese, it was nearly emotional. She was so s-l-o-w in getting to this point.

I applaud you Milly in your ability to commit to such an act of bravery!

I wonder what happens next week as Mrs Milly experiences the full force and nature of processed cheese product upon her taste buds? Stay tuned!

Zoe Meme #107: Courage

I marvel at the courage people demonstrate when they deal with life threatening situations. I read amazing stories of courage in battle, where soldiers defy the odds and rational thought of self preservation to advance their position. Such acts of bravery move me deeply.

Courage is not a lack of fear. I have been called courageous for my cancer battles, documented in this blog and on my youtube channel. I assure you, I have felt much fear as I’ve faced my decisions. It was hard for a long time to internally reconcile my experience, my emotions of fear, with the praise other would lavish on me as a hero and one who is brave. My reality inwardly did not match what others saw outwardly.

If courage isn’t the lack of fear, then what is it? I believe it is the ability to make a choice despite fear, despite the circumspect demanded at times.

The respect shown by others, the recognition of the daring approach of one who faces life and death decisions, is (in a sense) a manner of stating “you are doing something without being overpowered by fear.”

Could the same be true for our pets?

Let’s take my granddogter Mrs Milly. She is one of the most cautious dogs I have ever met when it comes to human food. She moves stealthily, with great concern, as she considers eating what we offer as a treat.

She can come across to me as truly afraid of human food at times. Yet, in the greatest tradition of dog following man’s valiant behavior in such critical moments, she demonstrates courage, the ability to choose against her fear, to move forward in her quest to overcome her irrational not at all typical of a dog’s behavior towards human food.

I love this dog for so many things, including her courage to finally put the food right up to her nose and take a good, strong whiff! What a brave, courageous granddogter!

Tune in next week to see what happens with Milly and the imposing can of cheese!

It’s OK to Feel Like Shit

I couldn’t agree more. Tony’s communication may not be in my style, but his point is valid enough I’ll try rebooting this, however that works … (still learning)

Unknown's avatartonysbologna : Honest. Satirical. Observations

Long before smiling faces, shiny new toys, witty emoji play and seemingly perfect lives became commonplace on your Facebook timeline, aka your convenient portal to the outside world– the Earth turned to a different beat that was softly playing in the stars.

You see, when the earth was young, three wise men met in a manger and shared a secret that has been buried behind a millennia’s worth of secrecy, smoke screens and illusions. This secret was about happiness and how to find it.

This secret is said to be so controversial that the thought of sharing it in public forces the secret holder burden the weight of the disbelieving masses – a heavy lift indeed.

With modern society’s bumper-sticker-mentality and my-life-is fucking-amazing-so-like-my-picture  social media craze, we all have forgotten a simple truth.

So I need to ask you something.  Are your nipples hard yet? Do you want…
